In September, it was my honor to participate in a week of factory and business meeting discussion at a local company. There was a lot of technical vocabulary and new vocabulary, but I learned on the go and everything went well. In my experience, interpretation can be easier than translation because the words don't need to be perfectly precise to achieve communication.

9月に地元の会社で一週間の間、工場見学や商談の通訳をさせていただきました。専門用語と新しい単語も多かったが、やりながら学んでなんとか大丈夫でした。自分の経験では、翻訳より通訳がしやすい場合もあります。なぜなら、会話の中だと、単語は多少ずれてもコミュニケーションが取れます。

On a personal level, I also enjoyed helping the engineers order lunch and select souvenirs. It was the first time I understood how someone can be so busy on a business trip that they don't have time to enjoy the city beyond dinner and the view from the car window.

個人的に、エンジニアの方々のためにお昼を注文したり、おみやげをすすめたりして楽しかったです。出張中で、車の外の景色と食事を楽しむことしかできない忙しさは初めて実感しました。
